Both Dundonians, Audrey and John BATCHELOR returned to Dundee in 2004 having spent 15 of the previous 20 years working and living in France.

We left Dundee in 1985 for Paris where we lived for 4 years. Later we followed up the Parisien experience by a long spell in Le Mans where Audrey worked for Renault and John worked in the insurance business for the eponymous local  mutual company. Our last home in France was in Lille not far from both Brussels and London!

With the wining and dining experience accumulated over this time in those different French cities and also in many parts of France, we decided, on coming home, to import the “slow food” lifestyle that is the French way of dining. And so Bon Appétit was conceived; and this is how it continues since we opened what seems like years ago in March 2005.

The French say “Bon appétit” to one another at the beginning of every meal, so we thought that these two small words conveyed the real spirit of our restaurant. Bringing France to Dundee is a fine dining contribution to the Auld Alliance! We are pleased that we have regular French visitors and are especially proud of our mention in the French version of the Michelin Green Guide to Scotland.

See you soon, and Bon Appétit.
